Siqi Mou has many unordinary gifts. Among them are her entrepreneurism. Her mathematical mind. Her musical talents. And so much more. And she’s just fine with all of them. She credits one of professors and mentors at Stanford, Condoleezza Rice, for showing her the power of multiplicity. “She was an incredible secretary of state, a professor, a minority woman. And, she also happened to be an amazing concert pianist. I was inspired by how she did so many things—I realized that actually a lot of life choices we make don’t need to be trade-offs.”

Her company, HelloAva, grew out of her own experience. “I personally struggled with a lot of skin issues when I was in college, and nothing worked well for me. So in business school, I created a company that uses technology and AI to personalize your skincare regimen.” It hasn’t been easy, but she’s learned a lot along the way. “Building my company, has been one of the hardest jobs I've ever had. But it’s taught me not to be afraid to take risks.” Her mom is her role model for the power of taking a path less ordinary. “She went to college at of fifteen, right after the cultural revolution in China. No one had been educated in ten years, and that year everyone applied. She was competing with almost all men. But she tried her best and she got into one of the best colleges in China. That, to me, was total female empowerment before the term of female empowerment even became a thing.”
